Can someone explain what the big deal is with wanting the citizenship question on the census?
Because the Census is supposed to count how many ppl live in the US of A. Regardless whether they are here legally or not.
Are you asking why someone would be against it?
Similar to being against voter ID laws. They want to be sure they can count the illegals.

Only US citizens have the right to vote
Are they legally supposed to be counted?
Yes. Trump agrees that they need to be counted. He just wants to point it out to everyone what the situation is...
They are supposed to be counted in the census and (at least the way things are now), they are counted regarding allocation of representatives. Neither of those things would change by adding the question.
The claim against the question is that it might lead to fewer illegal residents responding to the survey, and therefore fewer representatives in areas that have a lot of illegal residents.

It's also in sync with where the Democratic partys position on immigration overall.
