Shabbos or weekday? If it's the latter, the usual, slide my finger under the top flap to open the box, and then "squeeze and pull" the plastic bag. On Shabbos, things get crazy and I introduce sharp knives into the process.

I'd say in the weekday it's crazier. Cereal bags should be classified as explosive devices

From Costco or Boxed, I often get large boxes that have 2 bags of cereal in them. So only a bag comes to the table - without a box.
So I'd probably just dump the box and keep the bare bag.
