Trying to remember which rosh yeshiva this famous story is attributed to:

Bochurim locked themselves in the rosh yeshiva's office one night to chill. The rosh had to come back to yeshiva to get something, and he knocked on his office door. The bochurim, thinking it was a friend pulling a prank, refused to open the door, until the reality sunk in that they were busted. When they finally opened the door, they were shocked to see that the rosh yeshiva had his hand covering his eyes, allowing the boys to escape without getting embarrassed.

Anyone know a source or the name of the rosh yeshiva?

Yes. (This names the room as the yeshiva's library.)

If by Jewish you mean "brings you closer to Hashem", then yes, plenty of sources.

Such as?

Exactly. Negative influence from זמר יוני is straight from the gemara...

Quote
Rav Moshe Feinstein in Yoreh De'ah (2:56) forbids singing and listening to songs composed for non-Jewish religious liturgy ("used in their houses of worship"). He adds that any music they composed based on verse from Tehilim was most likely composed for such purposes. It is therefore forbidden to sing or to listen to these songs even on a cassette (i.e. not live).

Rav Moshe brings as one source for this prohibition the Maharsha on our Sugya. Although Rashi explains that "Greek songs" (which casued Acher's fall) are forbidden in recognition of the Churban [as stated in Gitten 7a], the Maharsha asks many questions on this explanation. The Maharsha explains that Acher used to sing songs of Avodah Zarah. This shows us the extent and nature of this sin.

Aside from this prohibition, Rav Moshe discusses (OC 1:60:166) the prohibition of listening to music during a banquet or dinner (see Gittin 7a and Rashi there).

But it seems neither of those mefarshim hold of a concept of an inherently
negative kind of music, or else they could have explained it that way.

If you need to rename a board, why do you also need to move its location?

IIRC I once stayed in an off-road hotel there. Nothing stuck out as being safe or unsafe.
