A few months ago I had been looking to plan a trip to Miami in the bedroom but I really wanted a stopover or two on the way.

I'll probably book it one day as it still is a great value and a one-of-a-kind experience.

Generally, stops of under 24 hours are treated as connections with no additional charge. And amtrak has two trains that go from NYC to MIA, four hours apart.

I read the same and that was my plan.
The problem is they only book a stopover for same price if there's no other option of getting to the destination.

I've been a couple of times in the lounge at Penn Station, you can get in if you have the United club card. It's a little hard to find, you have to ask someone. There is a United sign outside it also.

Its pretty dreary and small, but it has some juice and chips but mainly, seeing how Penn is generally a zoo, it beats anything else there.

Has anyone here done the auto train from lorton, va to Sanford, fl? Would you choose that over flying lechatchila?

I did it twice,  I certainly would not choose it over flying.  The only benefit would be if you must have your car and you can't make the drive.

From NY it's 4 hours driving, 17-20 hours into Sanford  and depending where in Florida you're heading can be another 3 hours driving.

People extol the beauty and relaxation of trains vs. the stress and hassle of flying. I assume your experience proved it to be as much of a hassle?

I did it a few years ago and am probably doing it again this summer.
I choose it over flying because b"h I have a large family and it would be very expensive to rent a van in Florida (especially a
12 passenger) This way you have your car when you get there.

Would u do it just for the experience if financials weren't the primary concern?

not sure I would do it if I could afford to fly and rent a van
but it was fun and an experience the kids will remember.
Also are you going with kids?
do you think your kids can manage such a long trip?

Wow. Glad to hear. I have two toddlers though. I think that's hardest age for travel.

Unreal. Almost 10, almost 9, almost 6, almost 3, 1
( and I lost a child that would have turned 7 tomorrow.)
Freaky
