Why?  If it's mutar, it's mutar, no?

If the Shabbos App comes out and it's mutar, would you use it?

I don't understand the question.  Why would someone not use something that's permitted according to halacha?

That's sounds very subjective.  And that was probably the objection for any innovation.  Eruv, timers, heck even electricity itself.  It's just that we're not used to it so it doesn't feel sabbosdik, but if halacha says that it's allowed then we don't need to be frummer than God.

Why is it any less "Spirit of Shabbos" than having a timer turn the lights off and on?

Only because we're used to one but not the other.

Didn't the Chafetz Chaim not allow electricity to be used in his shul on shabbos?

What do you think a Shabbos meal would feel like with everyone on their phones, it's quite different then the lights going off at the end of your meal...

That feeling is quite subjective to the current state of affairs.
How do you think they felt when they first invented the eruv?

What would a Shabbos table look like with everyone reading a book? Does that mean that books should be Assur?

OTOH Imagine a husband out of town on business, wouldn't his Shabbos meal be enhanced if he could join his family via Face Time?

+1 That's why it's such an interesting conversation. Figuring out what Shabbos is really.

I'm referring to the Shabbos app it's a lot more disruptive, besides the concept of carrying on shabbos always existed...

Because that's done automatically and this is done manually, which is a complete new concept.

Carrying in an eruv is done manually.
