Don't hate, I may be an "anti" but I can't argue with what works.
I did.

Finished Smicha, but why wouldn't there have been DD if you hadn't gone to Brazil on Shlichus?

Just because a news site has an agenda doesn't give it the excuse to paractice poor journalism, Fox News may be biased but they still wouldn't publish such a story without getting a comment from the airline and speaking with some aviation "expert"...
Unfortunately many respected news outlets have been caught taking stuff from blogs (with 0 integrity) & reporting it as major news only to later find out it was all made up.

Guys in order to have a clean safety record, you NEED to be on top of your game and it does NOT happen by itself!

Below is the safety record for ALL airlines. They NEVER had 1 single accident in their history! Coincidence? I think not...

http://www.planecrashinfo.com/accidents.htm
(Yes, all legacy US carriers btw had at least 1 fatal accident in the last 20 years)

PS. This does not mean to say that the girl did or did not alert the crew of a possible issue. Just no reason to believe that this airline is to be singled out as an unsafe airline.

Transaero Airlines is refuting the claim by a Crown Heights girl that her alertness 'saved' passengers from a defective aircraft.

By COLlive reporter

Transaero Airlines, based in S. Petersburg, Russia, is refuting the notion made by Mussie Weinfeld, a girl from Brooklyn's Crown Heights, that her alertness has led to the airline grounding a faulty aircraft.

Ekaterina Makarova, Media Relations Manager at Transaero Airlines, sent the following statement to COLlive.com in response to an article titled: Girl's Vigilance Saves Airline.

Here is the statement in full:

A number of Israel's media have published an information assuming that a passenger of Transaero's UN312 flight carried out on April 12, 2015 contributed to detecting a defect in the aircraft condition.

As the initial information was published in the Jewish media outlets with no comments requested either from the airline nor from independent aviation experts who could have helped to understand the actual state of the matter, the information was misinterpreted.

The airline finds it necessary to clarify the real circumstances. When carrying out the mandatory pre-flight system check at the engine starting point, the flight crew reported the indication of asymmetric work of slats.

The flight crew called for specialists of the handling company of Ben Gurion Airport. The diagnostics, carried out by the specialists, showed that the aircraft having this defect should not be operated on this flight.

At the time when the flight crew and the specialists of the airport were carrying out checks, one of the passengers reported to the cabin crew that she heard ambient noise.

Although the passenger, indeed, drew higher attention to the noise, the decision to suspend the aircraft from operations was not made upon the information received from her, but as the result of the technical check of the aircraft.

The aviation has strict regulations and rules of control over all systems of aircraft as part of pre-flight checks and preparatory operations. They were fully observed by the crew as well as by the specialists of the handling company.

Over 24 years of Transaero’s history, flight safety has always been and, at present, remains one of the top priorities of Transaero Airlines. Transaero has always been following the strict rules of preflight aircraft checks. Due to the airline's highest consideration to safety issues, Transaero Airlines is included in the top 20 safest airlines in the world and the top 6 safest airlines in Europe in the international ranking of JACDEC research agency.

Am I the only one who finds it odd that COLlive just put the letter there verbatim? Most media outlets would have edited it somewhat, and I get the feeling they left the typos to make the airline look bad.

He pushed me to go on shlichus to Brazil rather than go straight to a smicha program.  Still took a powerful letter from Igros to convince my parents to send me to a place where the rosh yeshiva's father was shot dead the year before...

Just seeing this now. Ironically things played out better for me (I think) by skipping Shlichus and going straight to Smicha. YMMV.

Well Dan is saying that there wouldn't be DD (and thereby no DDF) if he hadn't followed R'Weinfeld's advice and gone to Brazil/Shlichus. We'd be living in a slightly different world...

Didn't say there wouldn't be DD. Hard to say really.

I can say I also wouldn't have found my shidduch had I not gone to Brazil and caused a long chain of events, but if you believe in bashert that isn't true.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

to quote what your mentioned upthread:
...To be fair though, if not for him there may not be a DD today...who knows.

So, if not for Rabbi Weinfeld, 'there may not be a DD today': maybe, maybe not...  all hashgocha protis. including our travels/hotels.
