Let's see if this was really a wing that would have completely fallen apart during flight. It's possible -- but perhaps the airline will not share that information.

I was initially pretty skeptical about the article given the title, source, writing style, etc. but a friend of mine on Facebook posted that she was on the plane. I also see she's in a thread on DDFB now too.

Yeah I guess after hearing that my friend was on the plane I got caught up and started taking the story more at face value. Even if it's not true that that passenger was responsible for the plane getting checked/fixed, the narrative fits perfectly with the general anxiety about Russian/Ukrainian airlines or Russia/Ukraine as relating to flying in general. It would be interesting for a legitimate news outlet to look into the story and validate or dispute the truth about her being the source and the severity of the problem with the plane.

The airline has responded that the story is factually incorrect, and that they had found the mafunction prior to this girl's report.

Perhaps websites that consider themselves "news" should wait for comment from the other party before reporting a story as "fact". This is embarrassing.
