Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

Just flew a few weeks ago, i don't understand the question
If they allow car seats and/or if the infant is not in a car seat but still buckled in.

Dan previously wrote:
YMMV. It has airbag seatbelts, so even if the FA does allow it with a seatbelt extender, it may be difficult to properly secure a carseat. An infant carseat would be impossible.

Has anyone flown in B6 Mint with an infant having their own seat? The plane is the old version and would have the 2 bulkhead seats
Update: no issues at all. Didn't have the bulkhead seats in the end.

I've always flew with a Doona and paid for an extra seat which always worked out nicely to have in the airport and to have on the plane.
Now that my 2 year old grew out of that what's the next best option?

I had a similar experience a few months ago. The flight attendant mentioned that “seats are not for car seats,” and unfortunately, the flight was full, so I couldn’t use it as planned. It seems to depend on the airline’s policy and how full the flight is. It might be worth checking with your airline in advance to avoid surprises  Also try to get a confirmation email so you can show to the flight attendant.

What is the best car seat for an under 1 year old (but maybe one that can be used even as a toddler) that is FAA approved (We have an UPPAbaby Vista if that makes a difference.)

Firstly, what's your general criteria? Looking for the most lightweight, no frills seat just for traveling? Will you also use it on drives? How many years of use do you want out if it?
Secondly, how old is your kid? You're probably looking for a convertible car seat, based on your message I'm assuming you're not talking about a 3 month old.

Would want to use it for driving also. As many years of use as possible. Baby is six weeks now will prob. need it for flying prob. not before summer.

I had similar criteria, ended up going with the Graco Contender Slim based on personal recommendations which research backed up. After some use I recommended it to others who are also happy with it.
Easy install, on the lighter side but not the most bare bones, goes from 5 lbs to 65 lbs. It does go on sale fairly often, so if you can, keep an eye on it on Amazon. The only thing I wish it had was more recline options, but I couldn't get everything and have it this easily transportable.

If you need much lighter (and cheaper), Dan's pick is Cosco Scenera Next. I would probably get that if it was for flying only, but for driving it feels really basic. Borrowed it from a friend to try out and my baby wasn't so comfortable.

Any reason why not the uppababy?

Don't know anything about Uppababy car seats, so I didn't recommend them, you also didn't mention that in your criteria :)
A quick Google search shows that only infant car seats are compatible with the strollers and sounds like you want a convertible. No?

UPPAbaby Mesa V2 Infant Car Seat/Easy Installation/Innovative SmartSecure Technology/Base + Robust Infant Insert Included/Direct Stroller Attachment/Jake (Charcoal) ( )

UPPAbaby Aria Lightweight Infant Car Seat/Just Under 6 lbs for Easy Portability/Base with Load Leg + Infant Insert Included/Direct Stroller Attachment/Greyson (Charcoal Mélange/Saddle Leather) ($159.99 )

Any of these make sense the 2 smaller ones work up to 30ish pounds. Until what age does a baby need a car seat for the plane? Also these are lighter than the one you suggested.

I never used a classic infant bucket seat like this, but your baby will likely grow out of this well before 30 lbs (think height limits too, and general comfort for a more active baby past the newborn stage). Do your research and see what works for you. Or maybe someone else can chime in here.

Infant carrier car seats, like the Uppababy ones you mentioned, are usually easier for babies as they can easily snap into the stroller frame without having to wake the baby up each time you go in and out of the car. (In airports too, it's a great way to transport your car seat until you reach the gate.) Depending on the size of the baby and car seat though, baby will probably outgrow it somewhere between 1-2 years (and may likely reach the height limit first).

Convertible car seats however, can last longer, as you can use them until the child is older. Some are up to 40 lbs, 65 lbs, or even more. The Cosco Scenera Next mentioned above is perfect for traveling, as it's extremely lightweight, but does not have too much padding. I have found the Evenflo Tribute to be lightweight too, but have slightly more padding.

Personally, I use the Cosco Scenera as we do not use a car often, but ultimately, it's about how often you'll be using it, and what's more convenient.

United flight 232 which pushed Jan brown Lohr to lobby for infant car seats:

There was a Jewish kid on the flight, and he tells his story on a podcast: https://youtu.be/Q2kVVmnhu6I?si=9NKTzTzlHvkyt3uE

Crazy story overall, this sticks out as the craziest detail:
experienced test pilots in simulators were unable to reproduce a survivable landing. It has been termed "The Impossible Landing" as it is considered one of the most impressive landings ever performed in the history of aviation
Jury Duty: Nothing to do there but chill and write a TR. Kinda like the beach but missing the view and ocean breeze.
