Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links:

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

it's different. Car seat means you pay for another ticket, but are guaranteed a seat for your baby
Bassinet is with 10% infant fare, is subject to availabilty, and might mean more room int he bulkhead

and car seat is safer if there is turbulence

If you booked a window seat and you have an empty seat next to you, you can put your car seat there without paying (infant ticket in the USA). Iíve done it multiple times with delta and Bh so far it always work. If itís a full flight you might want to get a window seat in the back and usually the last seats to be taken are the back middle.

We use the doona and itís been really great. Only thing is that (at least wonít the planes we had with delta) the doona doesnít fit in the aisle in economy so you have to carry it to your seat
This works if you book economy. I booked business and I'm not having 21 month old in my lap for that many hours, ain't gonna work for me. So I splurged by getting him his own seat. But honestly I feel like I got a bargain with the 44% Amex bonus.

Do 2+ and add a year to the DOB. No problem.

Its been a loooong time since I traveled with an infant:)
Domestic....

1) Do I have to notify gate that i have infant/lap child or can I just board ? (No luggage)
2) Will gate check if extra available seat to allow me to bring car seat on airplane, (they used to always allow , just dunno if things changed?

TY

question is "is it worth bringing car seat to gate instead of checking at counter, on the chance they will allow him to bring it aboard and put his lap infant in the car seat in an empty seat"

Before transferring miles to Avianca to book biz ticket on Austrian (ORD-TLV), I wanted to find out how much lap child would cost.  Avianca says I need to book lap child thru Austrian; Austrian says I need to book it thru Avianca.  Neither willing to tell me the cost, either.  Anyone experience a similar issue and have a workaround to get an infant booked?  Thanks!

Usually booked by ticketing airline, in this case avianca
Option 1 HUCA
Option 2 conference call 2 airlines and make them work it out
Option 3 book a dummy revenue ticket with infant and have them attach infant to award reservation

Option 3 May or may not require the help of a travel agent
