Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

Just buy the Cosco Scenera from Walmart. $39. And it'll be a good travel car seat anyways

ETA: Was this discontinued?

Seems like it, but doesn't seem like they are actually selling it

What do you mean I see them selling it.

Dunno, maybe because I'm looking from Canada?
If you see it, I would get it. You can use it forward facing on the plane and rear facing in London. It's a small investment and you will have it for future travels. You may even like it enough not to buy a fancy expensive car seat.

the problem with the new seat is:Forward-facing 22-40 lbs (29" to 43") and at least 2 years old.

Does that really mean 2 years old?????

EDIT: going to request a mod to move the last few messages to the car seat thread.

For the plane ride I think you'll be OK (safer than the alternative of holding him on your lap)

I booked domestic tickets on AA last week and left our infant as a lap child. Now I decided that he (me) deserves to get his own seat. I just booked him through Priceline on a separate itin with a DOB that makes him 15 years old. Should I call the airline to change his DOB and Merge the PNR or is it unnecessary?

Thanks, I'll only do it if I need the extra free luggage. He's not eligible to have his own AA CC :P ;)

not sure yet how i would be flying there, but flying back would be on AA with avios
we would have a double stroller and 2 car seats.
is there a limit on what they let you bring to the gate?
we would have them place the stroller and 1 car seat under the plane, and probably use the convertible car seat
should that all work?

You should be fine.
The only ones who may make an issue is the TSA, but if you need the stroller in the airport, and explain that the seats are for the flights, there will be no issue.
Once you get to the gate, they are more than happy to gate check whatever you want, IME.

So, I recently booked a CX 773-ER J seat for my 2yo from EWR-HKG and back. I had thought they'd let the baby sit in a seat with their child restrain seat, but after looking at their website, they have the following footnote:

Quote
[The CRS is allowed] "Except the New Business Class seat on 777-300ER (3-Class with Premium Economy Class) until further notice"

Does this mean I can't bring my son on the flight at all? What should I do (other than call CX, which I plan on doing tomorrow)?

I booked a seat for my then 6 month old baby. I had to hold him for take off and landing. But for the actual flight I laid out the bed and he slept the entire 7 hour flight. They didn't make me buckle him or anything. They did say though that I would have to hold him if there was turbulence, which didn't happen.
I don't know how it would workout in your case with a 2 year old. I don't see that they should give you a problem other then take off and landing which you might have to hold him.

I called CX last week to put in a request for a CRS because I can't use a carseat on the flight that I'm taking and they left me a message today saying that if I use a CRS, it has to stay connected to the seat the whole flight. Can't be removed during the flight at all. Think I'm going to call and cancel it. Rather hold my kid for take off and landing and have her able to lie down on the seat during the rest of the flight. No chance she'll want to sit up right in a CRS for 16 hours.

That's definitely their official policy

You're saying that it can be removed during the flight?
