Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

I'm not sure where to post this and would appreciate if someone could direct me.

I booked tickets for my bro and sil using the UR portal. Alitalia TLV-JFK stopover in Rome. SIL called Alitalia to add their lap child. She was told that the baby was added but that she had to call the booking agent to pay for it.

I just got off the phone with Chase UR. They were on the phone with Alitalia for about 1/2 hour. Airline claims there is no such passenger (baby) and that they are maxed out with lap children (not enough life vests). Claim we'd have to rebook and pay all the fees.UR very helpful and will work on getting us a refund. Problem is, with prayer times and various other arrangements, this was the ONLY flight that worked within budget.

Any experience with this? Is there any way we'll be able to have baby added? TIA

UPDATE:
After 15+ hours on phone with both Chase and Alitalia, Chase picked up the tab and rebooked on AirFrance. Luckily for us- one segment of the original tix were business class (cheaper than economy). Chase rebooked as business. AirFrance was lie flat and a much better flight!

very happy for you! I was almost jealous that I "only" got them to make an exception (or magically disappear the tenth infant), but then again it took me only an hour on the phone, so I guess that makes up for the time in business class!

United allows the full 23kg/50lbs (as well as most Star Alliance carriers)

Ask your TA to check if the INFT shows confirmed on all segments

The rule about INFT limit has nothing to do with bassinets. It's applicable on both long haul and short haul.
