FAA Links for info on using car seats:

Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

Anyone ?? BTW it will be JFK-TLV owith Elal ..
Look up the manual. It should say it there. Also, there should be a sticker on the side. Something along the lines of:"this carseat is approved for use on motor vehicles and aircraft".

The rule about INFT limit has nothing to do with bassinets. It's applicable on both long haul and short haul.
i assume if inf is confirmed w bassinet that means their system has infant confirmed on flights

On that segment, yes. Does not say anything about the other segments.

Has anyone tried the strap to connect a car seat to a carry on bag?

Just used 1 in JFK a few weeks ago for toddler. Worked, but was a pain (figured had to try before spending $70 instead of $15).

Gave in and bought the real thing after getting to destination. Have it for the way home (in a few weeks) and will know if i made the right decision (I think I did).

Thinking about it now, it reminds me of when I made the same Cheshbon of justifying the Doona purchase (tried without, and made me hate flying lol).

Yes
"Medication in liquid form is allowed in carry-on bags in excess of 3.4 ounces in reasonable quantities for the flight. It is not necessary to place medically required liquids in a zip-top bag. However, you must tell the officer that you have medically necessary liquids at the start of the screening checkpoint process. Medically required liquids will be subjected to additional screening that could include being asked to open the container."

Regarding medication, speak to your doctor. If you do go with Benadryl, make sure to test it before the flight, as it can have the opposite affect, which is not something you want to find out on the flight.

yep. Definitely. When I flew my 2 yo was wired from his Benadryl and slept for a total of half an hour on the 10.5 hour overnight flight to TLV. Safe to say the entire section was not happy we were on the flight(although we really tried everything possible).

Of course he second we got into the car at the airport he fell right asleep and slept he whole way.

Had the same story this week (maybe a bit better). Baby slept for 2 1/2 hours on a 7 hour flight & woke up in a crazy mood but was out cold as soon as we got out luggage and slept for 3-4 hours

On the way back i booked UA and they made no issue of seating both parents at the bassinet.
