Earning mileage: Infants (who don't pay for a full ticket) are not eligible to earn miles.

Luggage: Some people report that their friend or parent flew and got lucky. However, it's best to check with the Airline (on their website or calling them), BEFORE packing your suitcases. Here are some helpful links, plus a summary of baggage allowed for lap infants.
Child paying 10% of fare can check a small suitecase up to 10kg/20lb. Child paying 50%+ of adult fare can check standard baggage allowance (one full size suitcase 23kg/50lb) both are +stroller and car seat. One carry on + booster or infant seat + pump and cooler
1 chacked bag at same rate as adults first bag + 1 stroller + 1 car seat. 1 carry-on diaper bag per child is allowed + pump + milk cooler + (stroller??)
1 stroller + 1 carseat. carry on: diaper bag, pump, carry one size stroller, carseat
1 checked bag up to 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller 1 carseat. 1 carry on up to 13lb/6kg or a carry on size stroller
  • BA
1 checked bag 50lbs/23kg + two of the following: stroller,car/booster seat,travel cot,babyack carrier. 1 extra carryon bag.
  • ElAL
1 checked bag 50lb/23kg. 1 stroller or car seat. NO carry on. (its not like their makpid these days any way  :))
[/list]

Proof: Some airlines require proof of age. Rather bring along some kind of proof, and not get stuck because of an gate agent or TSA guard that had a bad day.

Infants are cute.

Does AA not allow online check in with lap child?

There just isn't an option to add the lap child. I've flown without even adding my infant at the airport, although I guess I shouldn't suggest doing that.

I would pay 30k AA to free my lap for 8 + 11 hours any day.
true, but sometimes there may be a chance of an empty (free) seat nearby.

I'm flying with a 2 yr old and 6 month old and want to take:
UBV with car seat adapter  (not the reg seat)
Chicco keyfit
cosco scenera
rumbleseat

what's the best way to do this for the airport / flight?

I booked an aisle and window seat for me and my wife and when I checked in I see the middle seat is still empty. Should I just board the plane with my carseat and put my baby there or do I need to ask someone if I could take the seat?

A lot of airless won't let you on the aircraft with the carseat if you don't hold a seat for the baby, they'll gate check it.

I think it's worth a try if the seat is empty. Is it within 24 hrs of the flight?

Yes -- I've seen carseats on the seats. If the plane becomes sold-out, then they can stow it underneath.
However, if you see that the seat is empty and there are no standby, then IMO it should work... G'luck!

Why don't you ask the agent if they can save you that seat? If they have available space they might do it for you.

He's at the gate. There's a good chance that if the seat was empty when she checked the layout online, then it's still empty now.

We are flying the second half of a round trip ticket on Turkish from JFK to TLV. We will iy"H have a three month old baby with us when we return. When we booked we were planning on just calling Turkish after the baby is born to add a lap infant, but since then I've looked into it and it seems that flying with a lap infant is not necessarily so safe..

What do you guys generally do? Do you spend the money and buy a seat for the infant?
Are bassinet seats considered safe? Are they easily acquired on Turkish?

(so far haven't gone wrong)

and kids ages, yup! (although I have girl then boy)

we recently did an Italy/Amsterdam trip (TR in progress). Took all that gear and it worked out great! I don't have the GoGo Travelmate (maybe not such a loyal reader after all?) but figured out a way to fit the scenera in the basket by having the diaper bag hold it in place. On all except 1 segment we were able to bring the scenera on board and overall was pretty smooth with the kids.
