Cheapest Windows XP
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:12:23 PM »
I'm looking to get a new (legit only please ;) ) copy of Win XP for an older relative. They have Vista and the computer needs a new reinstall and we just prefer XP because we (those that will have to keep fixing/maintaining the system) are familiar with it. Where can we find it cheapest?

Thanks in advance for the help

Depending on which version of Vista you have you have, the licensing rights may allow you to downgrade for free.

I have to check. Though the (Acer) desktop was bought a few years ago so I doubt they'll let us downgrade now. No?

If it came pre-installed on the system, it is highly unlikely you will be able to downgrade. Personally I've never heard of downgrading a license, but I guess theoretically it makes sense

If it isn't Pro/business, there's no upgrade AFAIK.
