Okay, so should I ping bluestrings and ask him to spill the beans and post a picture of the guy?

Slightly OT per the title, but I can’t believe the Plane Tales podcast hasn’t been mentioned on DDF before. The Old Pilot’s Plane Tails is an amazing segment of the APG (Airline Pilot Guy) Show a weekly 3-hour-long aviation podcast.

Plane Tales runs approx. 20 minutes and usually covers an aspect of aviation in an informative and entertaining manner. Well worth a listen.

I've always found this fascinating.

Gander, Newfoundland Sabena crash 1946 - first major civilian crash; first time helicopter search & rescue was attempted for civilians

There were multiple Jewish/frum people on the plane; R' Shimon Alster's father perished in the crash. They buried all the victims at the location of the crash - was too perilous to move the bodies. He visited the site a few years ago for the first time (he was a baby when the crash occurred) - it requires ATVs to access the location.

In recent years there have been drone videos recorded of the location of the crash. The plane is still visibly intact.

I often listen to stories from Stories To Inspire, a great website/organization that cuts stories out of speeches from rabbonim and presents them separately, so a person who likes stories can easily listen to them without having to find them.

I came across this story that blew me away. There are many great stories but this story was told so nonchalantly, almost as though there was nothing so interesting about it. In short, this rabbi, Rabbi Mike Bengio of Chile, had tickets to be on Auroperu Flight 603 with his family but had to miss the flight after his mother fell down the stairs. He also mentions that another frum family missed the flight, but he doesn't expound.

Here's Mayday's depiction of the crash. There is no mention of the near misses (or near hits), but I'm posting it here for those who are unfamiliar with the crash.
