Anyone book/search anything recently with Aeroplan.com? For some reason, the website is only recognizing about 10-15 airports, and unfortunately, none of the NYC area airports are recognized. Am I missing something?

I just flew on NK 331.
The flight was oversold and  they were looking for one volunteer. I went over to see what they were offering. He was offering overnight hotel stay, United 6 AM and two flight vouchers less taxes. Considering that Spirit's fares are mostly taxes, I declined. Once boarding started I waited until I was one of the last passengers and asked if they found a volunteer. They still hadn't. I therefore told them if they up the ante I may reconsider and volunteer. The supervisor got on the phone and suggested we wait five minutes. During that time they announced final boarding call and ended up with 1 no show.
My question is would have you taken the offer and have them rebook you on a full United flight with hopes of a United oversold situation?

On a double decker plane, is J better on the top or bottom deck? In terms of service and quiet.

You can never count on a flight being oversold.  This close to flight time, if they're offering you a seat on that flight, it's likely not oversold.
I think your moves were smart.  Not taking their cheap offer, and waiting for them to be desperate. It all disappeared with the no show, but you didn't lose anything but hope.

Depends on the specific aircraft. Check seatguru.com with your flight details.

A client of mine once took such a voucher, it had to be used within 30 days or so (maybe 99 - but not a full year) and then when he called to book the taxes somehow was double what online was showing...

Is there any way to get a free checked bag if I booked a United flight with Amex Biz Plat 50% back? I have the Explorer card. Is there any way I could charge a few dollars on it, or something?

UA Expert Mode can help show how many seats are available and in which class.

While I was waiting to board NK 224 for my return, there was an announcement that NK 737 was oversold and they were offering 1 flight coupon and reacommodation on a different airline. I laughed.

I don't understand your question. As long as you UA FFN is on the reservation you should receive the MPE benefits. This is regardless of how you paid for your ticket.

incorrect.
On UA you officially have to pay for the flight with the United card to get the benefits.
But if you're the AH (or even an AU YMMV) they'll waive the fee (usually) once you show them the card

I booked United a few weeks ago, and used a different card to pay and didn't get the free bag. i called the 800 number and they suggested to show the card at the airport check in and it will be waived. So, they gave they suggested it recently.

Luckily, it was within 24 hours of booking, so, i cancelled and re-booked with my united card.
