1. Traveling on AC, TLV-YYZ-BOS in February.
2. Problem is that our YYZ-BOS connection follows an overnight layover.
3. I booked the tickets during AC glitch in August and grabbed it, even though I knew it entailed overnight layover...I couldn't get the system to give me the same-day connection, and I knew the glitch was about to end.
4. Now, I have petitioned AC to change the connecting flight to same day -- even cited an "itinerary change", but they pointed out that it was only 5 minutes and affecting only our outbound, not these flights -- but they refused.
5. I am considering purchasing one-way YYZ-BOS tickets for $126, which I can do on UA (code share with AC) via Amex and get half back with biz plat, so it's not too expensive.
6. My questions are how to deal with the luggage:
a. Would AC in TLV agree to tag my luggage to the earlier UA/AC flight, or will they insist on checking it all the way through to BOS on the connecting flight that is married (the correct term?) to the long-haul TLV-YYZ flight?
b. If they don't agree to tagging it on the earlier flight, will I have an opportunity to retrieve it myself in YYZ and re-check it to the same-day connecting flight?
7. Thank you.
Dont you have to retrieve it anyway in YYZ to clear US Customs there?

You don't retrieve it in YYZ, asking to tag it to YYZ only gives them a chance to deny you boarding for hidden city

Where do you clear US customs and immigration? If you have an overnight it how will they check bags tbrough for the next day? Cant you just say you need stuff for your overnight stay?

This is correct. I have traveled several times TLV-YYZ-BOS and recently DXB-YYZ-BOS, and each time the process is as follows:
a. plane lands
b. follow signs to "flights to US"
c. clear security (shoes off, laptops out, long lines)
d. wait in holding area for your name to appear on the screen, indicating that your bag has cleared customs (passenger never sees or touches bag, though I suppose if there's a problem with it they would pull you aside here and question you and examine your bag in your presence.)
e. Global entry
f. Hand Global entry receipt to US Border guard (who, on Tuesday, told me that I jeopardized my Nexxus by not declaring food..."But I'm in a good mood so I'll give you a warning this time.")
g.Proceed to F gates for US flights

Where do you clear US customs and immigration? If you have an overnight it how will they check bags tbrough for the next day? Cant you just say you need stuff for your overnight stay?
Right, so this is the crux of my question. With an overnight layover in YYZ, can I count on AC in TLV to allow me not to check the bags all the way through to BOS?

I don't know about AC specifically but agents in TLV have no clue about HC's. I got TLV agents from a few different airlines to give out my bags by connections as short as 40 min!

Not all agents. UA, for example, knows darn well about them.

So with my 13-hour overnight layover, sounds like I probably can rely on them to let me pick up my bags in YYZ. Yes?

I am looking to take my family from NY to Australia in January.
We booked the SYD-HOU-EWR flight as soon as it loaded (return flight) and got 5 seats in united business class (at least till Hou) and I am trying to see what to do for the outbound.
As there is no points availability, I am thinking of purchasing 1 way tickets (January 14-16) on United and using GPU'S and hope that they clear.
Any thoughts ?
It seems January 14th would give us the best shot of upgrading (most seats available in business class)
I have gold status and the rest of my family has no status.
Would splitting our reservation help with the upgrades?

booked  a round trip from yyz to ewr on AC for my parents.  turns out my mother will only need the return flight. the airline wont let me change her ticket to a oneway without a fee. is there a way I can have my father scan her boarding pass with his as this will let her use the return flight?

You are looking for "real" trouble!!-get that thought out of your mind----that fee will be really cheap when you compare it to the cost when your father gets caught

I have read many ways "around the rules " over the years - think this first time someone plans to travel on another's air ticket since 9/11

Just buy your mother a separate one-way ticket now. Whatever you spent on the RT for her is a sunk cost -- forget about it.  There are some very cheap o/w's right now for that corridor. Hope they work for you.

Any recommendations as to where I might be able to find past flight details? I'm mainly looking for departure/arrival times, and aircraft type. I don't mind creating an account, but would prefer not to pay. TIA! I feel like @Yaalili has the answer:)

7-10 days back most websites will give you.

Flightradar24 has free 7 day trial where you can see history of past year.

FlightStats.com
FlightAware.com
Tried both of those. Flightstats, only allows historical data searches for paid accounts, and I can't find anywhere to search past flights on flightaware
