I had 2 one way tickets booked on American through ba last week, the first leg was cancelled due to the storm. What is the airlines obligation as to refund the return ticket (which I obviously missed). Whom should I contact BA OR AA?
Update: We are now over 2 months from the incident and it took till now for them to refund the original canceled flight (and the return flight thank god) and only with the help of the DOT. I think its ridiculous it should take so long for a canceled flight to be refunded and only after going through hell. Im shocked airlines can get away with not refunding right away a canceled flight.
heres the response i received from them:
Dear Mr G****
We have been contacted by the US Department of Transportation regarding your wife's tickets. Please accept my apologies for the delay in our response.
I am very sorry that your wife's original flight booked with Avios points with American Airlines to Cancun on 04 January was cancelled. I see that this ticket 125-87660****, was refunded on 07 March in the amount of USD31.93 to a Visa card ending in ***. The 20,000 Avios used for this ticket have also been credited back to your Executive Club account 9768**** on 10 March.
I see she was holding a separate award ticket for her return to New York for travel on 08 January. Although this was a separate reservation and the flight was still operating, I understand your reasons for asking for a refund, therefore, as an exception, I see that a refund of $41.06, was credited back to the same Visa card mentioned above on 07 March. I have credited your Executive Club account 976***** with the 20,000 Avios points used for ticket number 125-876******, booking reference R*****.
Thank you for contacting the US Department of Transportation and for giving me the opportunity to respond and settle your claim. I am sorry for any inconvenience the cancellation of your American Airlines caused for your wife. We hope to welcome you both on a British Airways or oneworld partner flight soon.
Best regards
