I know that, generally, if you have a round-trip ticket, and you skip the outbound, the return leg gets cancelled.

Is this a hard-and-fast rule?

Usually DDFers don't take "no" for an answer, but in this case, no probably means no.

I am booked on a AA  from ORD going to IAH on monday morning at 7AM, with the snow on sunday night- how likely is it that it will be cancelled? would it be smart to switch to the 10AM flight now? with snow overnight and tapering off in the morning, can ORD usually handle that or will everything be delayed? TIA

No one can tell for sure, my brother was on AA from SFO to IND with a connection at ORD, he just landed minutes ago at IND after a 5 hour delay at ORD. He said many flights were cancelled or delayed for a few hours.

so, I stuck with 7 AM flight, was about to get on the plane, most people had bordered already and then AA cancelled the flight, then I found out the 10 Am flight was also cancelled!
I could take an 8:20 tonight, but I would rather cancel the whole thing, my problem is that I am on a united return on thursday night- anyway to get a refund on that? I was thinking of changing it today, and hope that the flight gets cancelled, and then if it doesnt switch it to later in the day and hope that gets cancelled etc... and if that doesnt work then switch back to the thursday night flight- would that work? any other ideas?

DW and I are taking our 16-yo DD and her unrelated BFF with us to PTY next month.  Do we need to bring any sort of documentation along with us that shows we have the BFF’s parental permission to take her out of the country?

I googled and it seems that CBP recommends carrying a notarized letter from the BFF’s parents saying they give me permission to travel with their daughter.

Better to have one. Took my 16 year old niece , different last name with us to Argentina, I took a notarized letter from her parents to be on the safe side, no one asked or bothered, but you can never know.

just in case anyone is curious- i changed my united return flight to wednesday morning, then wednesday afternoon- then to wednesday night and finally i got a flight that was cancelled and got my money back, so a little patience, time and some bad weather can pay off
