did you use any c.c. That gives travel insurance? Car? Amex?
No, but even if I did, I'm not talking about compensation. I want my stuff back.

Would like to book LHR-NYC-FCO VCE-TLV preferably in J. Which airlines have a decent reward availability for those cities?

Most airlines will refund a ticket for an immediate family death. Have you asked?

I just spoke to someone last week that was booked on a RT with Level PAR-NYC, he couldn't take the first flight because of an ESTA problem, they guarenteed him that they will keep the way back. Obviously you have to let them know.

If an airline goes bankrupt and cancels flights you purchased before you leave or while you are on the trip, what recourse do you have, if any?
Are there any credit cards with insurance that would cover rebooking in such an eventuality?

You can dispute the charge with any CC and they’ll refund you since the airline won’t respond.
Regarding rebooking, I know Chase Sapphire Reserve doesn’t cover a case of bankruptcy. Not sure about AMEX

Does anyone know if there's an airline flying from NY/NJ to MCO/DAB area with a stop in CHS?

There are no nonstops from CHS to MCO/DAB and it’s not a hub of any airline so would definitely not be a stopover.

you can check the airberlin thread to be sure but IIRC no credit card covers insolvency and some might not even allow dispute as the letter of the law would require you to file as a creditor in bankruptcy court
