From the Chase site re the United Explorer:
Free Checked Bag: The primary Cardmember and one traveling companion on the same reservation are each eligible to receive their first standard checked bag free; authorized users are only eligible if they are on the same reservation as the primary Cardmember. To receive first standard checked bag free, the primary Cardmember must use their UnitedSM Explorer Card to purchase their ticket(s) (this purchase requirement is waived for flights completed during the 90 days following the account open date) and include their MileagePlus® number in their reservation. First standard checked bag free is only available on United- and United Express-operated flights; codeshare partner-operated flights are not eligible. Service charges for oversized, overweight and extra baggage may apply. Cardmembers who are already exempt from other checked baggage service charges will not receive an additional free standard checked bag. Chase is not responsible for the provision of, or failure to provide, the stated benefits. Please allow 2 weeks after account opening for your first free standard checked bag to be available on eligible United reservations. Please visit united.com/ChaseBag for details.

And from the United website:

Free checked bags for United Cardmembers
United primary Cardmembers can check bags for free on United and United Express® flights. If you are traveling with a guest on the same reservation, they can also check their bags for free.
To receive this benefit, you must:
Buy the tickets with your qualifying United MileagePlus card.*
Go to My trips and make sure your MileagePlus number is on the reservation.
* This rule does not apply to new cardmembers traveling on flights within the first 90 days.

His questions was regarding "carry on/luggage".It's a benefit, but not mentioned officially.

Not really. And it's two different questions.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I’m booking for family of 6, buying a friends travelbank cash for most but want to book 1 with the card to get the amount of luggage we need so I plan on splitting the reservation.

2 questions:

1) I don’t see anything about carry on luggage, what does it mean “it’s a benefit but not officially”?
2) If the ticket is partially covered by my travel bank will the benefit still apply?

Why would you need to split the reservation? If you do that, only your ticket will get the benefits. You can pay most with the travelbank and the remainder with your CC and get the benefits.

Splitting it because I only have $200 in my bank. Purchasing the rest from my friends bank so needs to be through his account.

I estimate that the 2 checked bags I’d get with booking through my travel bank and card (and carryons?) should be enough for our trip.

You can still use the CC through his account. I would use the CC with the reservation with the most passengers on it. Just make sure to put the primary cardholder on there and charge at least a dollar to the card.

Will United allow a car seat on board for a 3y/o?

Any chance of getting United to honor a Travel Certificate that expired 3 weeks ago?

ETA
They honored it.

To get the 25% off award tickets for a child with Flying Blue miles, does it have to be one child for each adult or will I get 25% off every child on the reservation as long as their is one adult as well?

Looking at Pesach flights. My itinerary includes a brief stop in Chicago but we can't stay there overnight for various reasons. Any same-day stopovers require calling the airline to book - inputting the same info on airline websites results in "You cannot book a layover as a separate segment." I don't want to try without asking here: is it reasonable to assume that the pricing on Google Flights is accurate and the agent will book it for me without tzuros? Am I better off calling a travel agent with the ITA codes? Any better way to do this or other advice?

You should be able to do this on an OTA (Expedia, Priceline ETC.)

I assumed so. But why wouldn't Google show that as an option if it existed?

I'm not sure, but it's quite common.

Where are the disadvantages (if any) of booking via the airline versus an OTA discussed?

It's the opposite. It's always better to book via the airline.

I happen to see this itinerary bookable without separating the segments at all, so the airline should have no problem booking it for you (obviously at a cost) as long as you provide them with the correct flight numbers.
