If you make aliyah you dont pay taxes on car you import. Might be up to two cars. So change registration to the name of someone who is making an aliyah, have them put it on the ship with their tax free aliyah stuff and pick it up from them there.
True, but if you import or buy a car tax free and sell it within 4 (or maybe 5?) years you have to repay the sales tax.
But even buying/importing without tax exemptions isn't as bad as regular cars: Tax on electric cars and hybrids is much lower than regular cars. Regular cars have 83% sales tax + 17% VAT, electric cars are 10%+17%, and hybrids are 30%+17%.
I think that's how the Prius has been more popular here, and now others like the Hyundai Ioniq, Kia Niro, Toyota Auris Hybrid are becoming more and more popular. Saving 53% of the tax (47% total tax instead of 100%) really helps.
Edit: Just looked up the current numbers and electric cars are now 20%+17%, not 10%+17%. Hybrids are still 30%+17% though. Also, electric cars over 300k shekels are taxed at a higher rate. But I guess the Model 3 is still doable at the lowest tax rate
