I couldn't find a good topic page for this (sorry if i missed it). would hope after a bunch of advice on different questions/routes/airlines we could make a wiki.
I'm planning an NYC-TLV trip with my wife and 3 kids (7, 9 and a 14 month old).
1) how bad is the 12 hour flight on a 14 month old (generally good natured and can relax for long periods in a hug, but prob not 12 hours)? Is a separate seat with carseat a must, even if we get a group of seats together with space to sit him between when beltlight is off?
2) Would it be worth it to have a stopover or will that just make things worse?
3) Would it be worth it to go with 6 seats on stopover transaero for a $600 ticket (total 3600) instead of 4 seats on direct United/ElAl (total $4400) and have kids lie down (but be subject to transaero) and have more room in 2 3 seat areas to ourselves?
