FYI: I messaged now United to convert a FTC to an ETC & their response was:

Please be advised that we can only convert travel credit issued last August 31, 2021 however I'll give you one time exemption to convert it to electronic travel certificate.

Book and cancel, you’ll end up with FFC. Keep it booked for over 24hrs.

i have $450 expiring 4/29 and another $525 expiring aug
you say i should book a flight for either $450+ or $975+, wait 24 hours, then cancel and i will get a future flight credit that doesnt expire? can the fare be non refundable?

It’ll have an exp a year from the day you book it, so gets another year. You can keep doing so. Any economy just not basic economy.

Use matrix to find prices you want. I keep it booked over 24hrs sometimes needs more than that. Has to go past the period they would have given a cash refund had been a new cash booking, whatever that period is. The system seems to give leeway over 24hrs.
