"Open" ticket Master Thread
« on: May 12, 2015, 05:41:27 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering what are the options for "open" tickets out there? (For those that don't know, open means that you can change the ticket without fees)

I only know about Air France Young Fare (Tarif Jeune) which allows you to use your flight for 12 months from the departure! This is really awesome for me and I use it all the time.

Anything else?

15-20 years ago everyone booked open tickets for their year in Israel with ElAl. Usually through a travel agent.

No idea if this still exists.

Another one that I see here but never used it is Air Austral serving the French overseas departments that seems to have the same policy as air France for people under 25.

Elal still has student fares but they are expensive (around $1700/$1800). These are "open" and you can select 1 date on the return for free, each time thereafter incurs a fee.

So the big advantage with air France is that it is unlimited! In addition to that you can also change the first way so technically you can use the ticket whenever you want forever.

Another thing is that you can also change the cities of the trips - both the departure and the arrival to any city in that region. So let's say you booked a PAR-NYC ticket and you need to get back from LAX to nice you can just change your current ticket to that itinerary instead of buying 2 other legs LAX-NYC and PAR-nice etc (obviously, you'll have to pay for the fare difference)
