Please don't get me started. Nearly all major websites I hosted there were hacked. Files originated on shared server but they deny it
Ouch!

I don’t know anything about this stuff, so please excuse my ignorance.

Long story, but someone has to transfer to me a domain and a website operating at that  domain. I know how to transfer domains between godaddy accounts, but nothing beyond that. I assume I have to ask the ‘sender’ where they’re currently hosting the website, and then somehow take over that account? And if I transfer the domain to my godaddy account, do I have to re-link it to wherever the site is being hosted?

(If it matters, I don’t plan on making any changes to the website, I just want to leave it up as is. I will likely transfer it to someone else in a few months, and just need to hold it somewhere and keep it online in the meantime.)

TIA.

1. You create a transfer on any registrar of your choosing, the current owner has to unlock the domain for transferring, you'll need to get an authorization code and the owner will receive a verification link

2. Hosting depends if it's regular hosting or something like GoDaddy pages which is tied to the domain, if it's the former you will need to create a hosting environment and import the content, then you point the nameservers, or can take over the existing account

Thank you! I’ve done step 1 with other domains before, but step 2 seems over my head, unless the guy lets me just take over the existing account. Hopefully that’ll work, and if not I’ll have to seek help from a qualified professional :)

Is it a static site? Do you know where it's hosted?

I used to host many of my clients wordpress sites on nexcess (after moving many from bluehost) but they've become unreliable. I've been using siteground lately and am pretty satisfied.
Would you recommend siteground for someone looking to move to a new host?
