Was there any rav that ever came out with a "pesak" that it's "ausur"??
I personally asked this question to many Rabbonim (R' Belsky, R' Doniel Neustadt, R' Rephoel Kops, and many others) and they all said that it is Absolutely Assur. I've asked everyone who copies for the name of their Rov who permits it, and nobody ever gave me a name, besides one guy who told me that "he heard" that R' Shmuel Fuerst (Chicago's main Posek) is Matir. I promptly called Rabbi Fuerst and asked him if it's Mutter. He said that it is absolutely forbidden! I asked him about the heter that people say "I will never buy the CD anyways". He laughed at me and said "Why does that make it Mutter? And how in the world could you know that you'll never buy it anyways. If you have enough interest now to copy it, you may possibly one day buy it!" And he proceeded to tell me all the people who told him it's assur (I don't remember all the names, but he defiantly said R' Chaim Kanievsky and YBBCL"C R' Elyashiv Zt"l).
I am proud to say, that although I have a substantial collection of Jewish Music, I have paid for every single album and have never copied a CD. Yes, over the years it has cost me a lot of money, but I've enjoyed it immensely and I don't regret it for a second.
