I don't think the argument is that the piraters themselves become buyers, though that definitely does exist. I will often listen to a stolen copy of the CD before deciding to buy it or not.
True for some individuals. I meant as a mindset and culture, and on a broader level.

Let's face it, if most people in the world were faced with the moral challenge of not feely downloading from an easily accessible data base of music, such as Napster, would they pass?

As far as the continued success of the music industry, that could be attributed to the technology itself which makes not just pirating, but also buying music so easy and accessible.

i dont know about you but if i have a pirated copy i wouldnt go out and buy it
That's generally true, but would you buy their next album?

I know by me there are artists who's albums I'll buy now only because I liked what I heard on a pirated copy of one of their albums that fell into my hands. If not for the pirated copy I probably wouldn't even know the artist existed.

Once you're getting a pirated copy of one album, why wouldn't you get a pirated copy of their next one?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

...a pirated copy of one of their albums that fell into my hands.
If I want an album I'll buy it. I'm talking about cases where I never would've bought the album, and wasn't specifically looking for it, but once I had it I liked it.

If it's an album that I would otherwise buy I won't get a pirated copy, but I guess I'm not quite at the level of buying a legal copy of something that I otherwise wouldn't have bought once I already have a pirated copy.

Anyone heard the new Ohad yet? On Mostly Music it's still pre-order, but I heard that Israeli radio stations are already playing the whole album.

One thing that looks funny is the cover. On top it says "Dovid Fadida Magish" and on bottom it says "A Yossi Green Production". I wonder who did more. Based on Yossi Green's recent track record (Shragee, Tzuddik, Yiddish Nachas), I would hope that it's more Fadida! (They happen to be nice CDs, but there's nothing exciting about them.)
mostlymusic.com has it now

I bought the Kumtantz DVD a couple of weeks ago and assumed wrongly that I'd get the audio for it too, do you guys think that it would be considered pirating if I get the audio only version from a friend?

Considering if you're good with a computer you could pull the audio from the video...I probably would do it-that doesn't make it okay though.

I don't know what the Jewish dvds look like today but if they're burned anything like they were 5-6 years ago I highly doubt it.

Assuming that can be done, and the sound quality would still be good, I'd still have to separate the tracks myself. It's much easier if I just get a copy

I'm saying that since I would be able to rip it from the DVD I would copy from someone
