Eli Nathan (Destiny) and Moshe Yess
I remember hearing a pre-Yess version at kumzitses that I actually preferred. The story was that after Yess bought it, the original composer requested that the old one no longer be sung. I guess it was Eli Nathan, I never heard the guy's name.

Interesting anecdote! I'm curious what the difference is.

You would probably enjoy this album: Ultimate Miami all of their English songs.
Unfortunately, they took down this album.

Did you hear this by a kumzitz in a yeshiva in Israel? "Eli Nathan" is/was a faculty member at an American-Israeli yeshiva.

Nope! Supposedly written by a bochur, so I guess it's older than that....

Was the melody different or the lyrics were different?

Just listened to it again, the lyrics, for sure and (I'm not a musician, here) how it was played on the guitar. Basic melody seems the same.

Last year, (or is 2019 now "two years ago?) Moshe Yess's son Tali put out a cover of that song. Seems identical to his father's version though, just a little more emphasis on the drums.

Anyone knows who composed Yosef, My Son, sung by Moshe Yess?

So, I can't listen to the song without thinking of a bochur in Yeshivah breaking into the kitchen and having a fatherly figure singing, "Yosef my son, take some food and run"

But that's just because

Some people's minds just work a different way...

I have a hard time getting jewishmusic.fm to work
Sometimes it doesn't work when the prefix is http:// (as it is in some of my links, (oops)) if you switch it out for https:// it should work

Interesting tip. The iOS app is finicky as well. Sad because their catalog/offering is unparalleled. If they premium features in an app that worked well, I’d consider paying for those.

My only complaint is their server speed and search system.

Exactly! The lyrics I recall were not like that. The conversation was between Yosef and his mother about Shema, the rest was descriptions of the various years and what Yosef was experiencing. I doubt there are any recordings of that version, though you never know...

You can come up with 10 (25?!) from 2020?

I don't listen to much new music even in genres that I like, and this isn't one of them.

Are you telling me there weren't 10 Jewish songs released in 2020 that
you enjoyed? (I don't know how many songs are released yearly...)
Do you want to play a board game, digitally or in Lakewood NJ? PM me. (Can be asynchronous, i.e. take turns whenever)

No, what he's saying is that most people were too preoccupied in 2020 to focus on enough new music to be able identify 10 new songs that they enjoyed.
