I gotta say, I would've won a lottery before I would've guessed this lineup...
This album is out. I listened to it last night.
First impression - Yochi Briskman is great in many ways.
Listening to Boruch Levine so much recently, and then hearing this, you can really see the contrast between Doni Gross's more simplistic style and Briskman's elaborate music and transitions. Both are great, but each have their own very distinct style.
Song selection is more Chasidish, mostly like the Yingerlach, Shmueli Unger, Hershy Weinberger, Lipa type of albums, with just a handful or so songs from non-chasidish albums. (Two Shwekey songs, one Boruch Levine, one Uzi Bodner, two Joey Newcomb, one Benny Friedman.) There is also one whole set with "traditional" chasidish songs, and that is definitely more the vibe of the album.
Both Marcus and Hill are magnificent, though as a music connoisseur, I find that the mixing/mastering obscured part of the clear beauty of their voices behind the very music-forward mix. That's just my opinion, I'm sure most won't pick up on this.
Overall, first impression is very nice.
