I agree that this would be your natural thought, but three months after the release, when you hear people talking about how it was so worth the $100 they spent on it, you may start thinking about buying it. Or not.

There are artists which release albums on a "pay what you want basis". I don't know if anyone has done a deep dive to see If they end up making or losing money. In the Jewish world, I think Lenny Solomon did it. If artists did that, I may, perhaps, add a couple of bucks for artists I really appreciated, but it wouldn't be considerably more than $10 for a full-length album.

Even if I'd much rather listen to that album again and again than go out for dinner, I wouldn't think twice about spending $75 at a restaurant.
You would also pay more for a ticket to a concert than for an album of said concert. (Even though it logically doesn't make sense.)

I figured you would do that instead of explaining what in the world that sing is doing on journeys. It fits much better in a Purim shpiel.

It fits on an album which is 90% filler songs.

Yeah - that was my point. Paying for a meal in a restaurant is more analogous to a concert than to an album.

Upthread, I explained a system I use for evaluating music albums, based on how much I would pay for each song. Based on that, I have a question for my fellow DDFers:

How much money would you pay for Journeys 5?

Meaning, if it was not available on any streaming service and you didn't know anyone you could borrow/steal it from, and you walked into a store and you saw it was selling for $50 - would you  buy it? $100? $500?

Only if it promises to be closer to 123 than 4

I am being moser moda'ah that I am 100 percent mocheh on the flagrant bizayon of Abie's albums. It may be the best of his work, but that is no reason to speak poorly of the fourth-best album ever made.

I still think that everyone will be willing to pay more for Journeys 4 than almost every other album of this millennium.

Okay so you don't have any way that the song belongs on journeys?

There are a few songs that don't belong on Journeys. For example, Yismach Moshe. But hamechubar la'tahor tahor.

Dude, I can appreciate exaggeration as a fan as much as anyone, but Journeys 4 isn't merely not better than "almost any other album of this millennium", it's a *bad* album.

The most recent ETA is Purim time; though the jewish music industry runs on Moshiach time.

If we have to pay $500 for the album, we'll get it as עני ורוכב על חמור. If it is priced regularly, we can stream it for $10 streaming from ענני שמיא

It pains me that some who have no appreciation for Abie's music will sully him by listening to Journeys 5. Rabbboooooisei! If you were metamtem your lev, don't let that carry over onto his heiligeh niggunim! Listen to Lupa Schmelczer instead. Yes, it's better to listen to the goyish songs, like gelt, then to be metamei Abie with your farshtupteh ears.
