The first song on Yoely Greenfeld's new CD is Az Yashir ("Zeh") composed by Yossi Green. I think that he was trying to replicate the style of the song Hizkabtzi, which was also composed by Yossi Green. He even adds the word Rabeini (Az Yashir Moshe Rabeini) because, IMO, Hizkabtzi also had those words (Moshe Rabeini Ula Lamuroim). I'm not saying that the song is "stolen", just the style. He also puts in a children's choir which sounds similar to Hizkabtzi, as well as them both being the opening track on their respective albums. My wife thinks that I'm wrong (as usual), and the styles have no connection, so I turn to this thread's contributors for their opinion. What do you think?
What am I missing here?
What's the chiddush of a composer making similarly styled songs?

I just listened to The Lost Treasure, courtesy of Shimmy Shtauber (the album won't be in stores until Wednesday, but I sometimes write reviews, so I got special treatment), and I must say that it really beat my expectations. Abie Rotenberg is the main actor, and he's truely amazing. The sound quality is better than any story album that I've ever heard. And the songs were made with real music (not just one-man-band stuff). The style is exactly like that of the Golden Crown, but much more modern. I can't wait to hear feedback from DDF'ers. (sorry guys, but you gotta wait till Wednesday to hear it :-P )
Where do you write reviews?

One more recent review, http://jewishmusicreport.com/2015/12/08/guest-review-of-baruch-levine-5-banim-atem/ It was done in a hurry, so don't be too critical.  :-\

Track 3 and 7 have musical programming. What exactly does that mean?

Cozmohoot: The music is basicaly DJ style, like Ufaratzta was on his last album. It's nothing like the wild secular style DJing that Lipa had on B Positive, just a real digital sounding music.

Cosmohoot: Totally agree about Goldwag. He's very talented. But I liked his stuff that he composed before Yesh Tikva better, because a lot of his stuff after are just Yesh Tikva wannabees. On the subject: There is one song of his that didn't make it but I think it's one of his best. The song Ochila LaKail on his first album. I think it's much nicer than the Lipa/Hillel Palay version.

Cosmohoot: Most of the world doesn't know that the famous Ka Ribon is his. It was on the same album as Ochila Lakail.

Besides that i think he's lost his marbles, it seems to me like a chilul hasham for him to go to the WH dressing and acting like a clown.

Where do people buy/download Jewish song rhythms for Korg keyboards?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

I know someone who recently bought a Korg keyboard, and he had to convince players to give him their beats. Most players are very protective of them. (It does take a lot of work to create good beats.)

Thanks for the info.

Is there anywhere to buy these beats? I know people who will give them away but I don't know if it they were originally shared for free, or if someone bought them and is now passing them around.

Thanks!

I heard from a reputable source that Avraham Fried is planning on releasing an all new (Regular) album in 2 weeks. I know with guys like Fried times can keep changing, but that's the closest I ever heard.

A great Jewish composer was Nifter today: R' Benny Hershkowitz Zatzal. He is most famous for Ain Aroch- the classic one that was originaly sung by Shtreicher (not to be confused with Baruch Levine's). He also composed Umipnei Chata'einu on Yumi Lowy's album ("Ve'ain ve'ain ve'ain anachnu yecholim, da da da, laasos..."), which was later resung on a Mezamrim album. He also composed, IIRC, Raza Dishabbos, also sung by Shtreicher. He put out his own solo album, but I don't think it ever gained traction.

The Shlomo Simcha album is the solo album he is referring to, I believe. It is here: http://mostlymusic.com/products/hamenagen-cd
