I initially thought that Shwekey's new single must be a cover of a Goyishe song, because the style is pretty Goyish, and it sounded "too good to be Jewish", but it was really composed by Yitzy Waldner (I guess I lost confidence in singers because it sort of became a trend recently even by "Heimishe" singers to steal songs from Goyim). The song was arranged by Udi Demari, and mixed by Ian Freiter.

I think Shwekey did a good job with this release. It's his first solo release (sans Yochi) and, although it's much harder to produce an entire album, it still shows that Shwekey can hold his own.

What does the Oilam hold about this song?

Random Interesting Fact: Yaakov Shwekey took 30 songs from Yitzy Waldner (starting from his first album. He has songs from him on every album.) It's more that triple the second place composer - his brother Moshe Dovid, at 9 songs (He only had songs on the early albums. His last song was on Shwekey 4. There's hock about family politics over a third brother, Yosef Chaim, but it's very hard to know what really goes on within families. Moshe Dovid did write lyrics for Yaakov for the song Hakadosh Baruch Hu on Libi Bamizrach, years after he stopped composing for him.) Shwekey's third place composer is Yossi Green, with 8 songs. He also has at least a few songs from the following composers: Moshe Wertzberger, Pinky Weber, Moshe Laufer, Baruch Levine, and Yochanon Shapiro.

Moshe Wertzberger did make a few gorgeous songs for him.

Clear Thinker: Moshe Wertzberger made 7 songs for Shwekey, including Psach Lahem (Psach Lahem Noam Veratzon Liftoach Sharei Retzonecha) and Tzadikim (Mipnei Ma Nistater Kivro Shel Moshe).

I didn't know Tzadikim is his.
Av Harachamim, iinm Lshem Shumayim is his, and I remember a gorgeous song on "Libi Bamizrach" I just don't remember which one.

IIRC, the song Vayomro Kol Ha'am Amain Amain Vehallel Lashem on Libi Bamizrach is his.

Anyone remember the JE Magazine that Yossi Zweig printed like 7-8 years ago? He told me that he wants to resume the Magazine, but it'll only be online. The cost of printing is too high.

User6669: Yossi Zweig has had this idea for a while, and is at the stage where he's trying to recruit writers. I don't think there is a time yet, the ideas are still formulating, and as of now, the ball didn't get rolling yet. But I'm on the case trying to speed it up. As for the location, I don't know if he'll make a special website, or if it'll be on his website JewishInsights.com.

Thanks. Get it moving, tell him that people (me, and others I know) really liked it because it was a high quality magazine, and can't wait for it to be back.

I didn't see it yet, but Lakewood Scoop tweeted that Shwekey released a music video to his I Can Be song. They should have it on their site.

Did anyone else think that his song was called "I can be single"?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

The lyrics sound like they were written by a teenager for a camp song. If that's what it is, fine. But if he's trying to produce a quality song for adults, he should shy away from the kitsch, cheesy cliches the song is replete with.
