Time for another Song of the Day! It’s almost Yom Kippur, so how about some Rachamana?

A personal favorite, Rachama by Kol Achai
https://soundcloud.com/ddf-sod/kol-achai-rachamana

Chabad’s Rachamana
http://www.chabad.org/multimedia/media_cdo/aid/140676/jewish/Rachamono.htm
“From a concluding prayer in the Selichot service. The opening bars reveal the remorse of the remorseful spirit, while the conclusion voices a strong hope for the acceptance and fulfillment of the worshippers’ petitions to the Almighty. The melody was introduced by the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory, on the holiday of Simchat Torah in 1959.”

Bonus video: Rachamana by the Rebbe http://www.chabad.org/therebbe/livingtorah/player_cdo/aid/796400/jewish/Niggun-Rachamana.htm

Rechnitz Rachamana as performed by Motti Steinmetz
https://soundcloud.com/ddf-sod/1-rachamana-motty-steinmetz
Entire album available as a free download: https://mega.nz/#F!WRtyACJK!iXbyObF3FMvSZMVFYMb7mA

Ta Shma’s Rachama, featuring (then-bearded) Matisyahu

Yisroel Werdyger's new album sounds amazing. There's 4 Pinky Weber songs on it! There's one entitled Zchor which is the same style as Ve'ahavascha and Zarah and it's beautiful so it will probably become the next Kumzitz hit.

Another quick review:

Dovid Gabay’s latest album is mostly pop styled, heavy on the synth, and chock-full of repetitive, catchy songs. The songs are mostly ok, fun and catchy enough to become really popular. But, in my humble opinion, Gabay’s voice doesn’t lend itself to this kind of music, and the album ends up being more grating than fun to listen to.

Hakol Letovah and Boreh Olam are probably the best of the bunch, but would have been far better on a Benny Friedman/Gertner album. Ozer is so repetitive, it gets annoying very fast, while Neilech manages to stay listenable – but only barely.

Moneh starts of sounding like someone forgot the words to Boruch Hagever and just used Didoh Beih. I appreciate the song for its use of more imaginative interpretative lyrics rather than just endlessly repeating pesukim. The lyrics could still use some work, but it is fun. I would prefer hearing it from 8th Day only, and having Gabay stay out of it.

Osin Teshuvah sounds like it was pulled from an Eli Gerstner/Chevrah album. In this instance, Gabay is a vocal upgrade ;-)

This is not a knock on Gabai’s singing - he is a fine singer. It’s a knock on the pairing of his voice and sound with these songs.

Just got a whole new respect for Simcha Leiner. His version of Koussevitzky's VLiyerushlayim is very nicely done and shows SL's creativity. THe music track was originally made by Moredechai Sobol to go with this version sung by MK on his CD In Those Days at THis Time and has since been used by many chazzanim. Most of them simply parrot every note of MK's. MK himself sang it differently each time (here is a video from a concert). SL does not do that and gets through with very little "yelling" which shows how far he has come since his introductory single. This is not an easy piece to sing.

ChaimMayer: I don't think it's well known. I came out a little over a year ago on Inscribed, which was had a plain white type of cover and no big names on it. It also had the song that Dovid Gabay just put out again on his new album, Osim Teshuva, which most people don't seem to realize that it's not new. If you're listening to Inscribe, I recommend the song Emes Malkeinu - it's a really great Kumzitz song.

My father is looking to buy a CD of Yaakov Shwekey's Kolot. He says that none of the stores have it because of some sort of dispute between Shwekey and Yochi Briskman. Anybody know where he can buy the CD?

Then why don't they take it off?!?! It's so easy!!!

Try this http://www.nigunmusic.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=291&search=Kolot

Fair warning, I've had mixed experiences with Nigun Music

Some Poskim say that if a CD is no longer on the Market then you're allowed to copy it from someone. Ask your local orthodox rabbi. If he says that you could, post it here and ask someone to send it to you or go to one of the Piracy sites.

Can you buy the download and burn it on to CD? (I don't think there would be any ethical or Halachic issues in this case, but I'm not a LOR)

A moral I just learnt- If you're gonna have a fight, try to do it in a way that the whole world doesn't know about it.
