By וכל מאמינים - when a chazzan says הלן בסתר, בצל שקי - it irritates me to no end. (it supposed to be a comma between בצל and שקי
Were I Daven the chazzan does that correctly, but he's the type that does Milel and milira properly.

Reading in this week's Haftorah "כל צמא לכו למים" got me thinking about Yeedle's album "Yeedle IV".
That album and MBD's "Moshiach" are IMHO the 2 greatest albums in Jewish music ever.
Why can't Yeedle make an album like that again?
Did it cost too much?

I was noticing how yeedle sings the words out of order from the posuk as does avromi flam with bshetzef ketzef.
I wonder if it has something to do with that particular haftora :)

Was wondering too. Was really enjoying it although I don't understand Hebrew.

Album of the Day

In reading a piece about an upcoming album that had some delicious samples (HT BloginDm), I decided to check out the original album and yes! it is awesome.

Listen and enjoy

I was looking around on Shabbos trying to find the makor for all the siddurim writing כאן צריך להפסיק by כל אלהי העמים אלילים  and I couldn't find one.  That would be a kashya on this no?

I posted those on the fly as a mareh mokom. ..

Upon further review, the first gemara the concern is the opposite. Rovo said that one should not pause after saying hashems name without finishing the sentence,  because it sounds like shem shomayim levatala.
The maskona of the gemara is that this is not a concern, because your daas is to finish, and therefore one may pause. (This is the pesak- tos)

It would seem from this gemara that we do look at your daas, and are not concerned with minor pauses. But this case is not exactly the same as the one in the siddur.

The second gemara may or may not be another proof that we go by the meaning not by the "semantics". Depending on how you learn the gemaras terutz.

Lemaaseh the best place to look would be in the poskim in hilchos tefila.. Il see if I find anything when I get a chance.

Yoni Z finally released his debut single (Music video coming Motzei Shabbos). I think it could be downloaded on JewishInsights.com and JewishMusicReport.com . He's been working years on the song. He wanted his first impression on the Jewish Music world to be perfect. I heard that he went all out on the video, blocking off streets in LA, and spending a fortune. I hope it'll live up to the expectations.

When will people learn that there is no market for Jewish Music Videos? The recipe for their success in the outside world contains essential ingredients that are forbidden in our world.

There are dozens of Jewish music videos with literally millions of views on Youtube.
Turn on adsense and the video more than pays for itself.
Visibly Jewish

I just remembered that I once saw a teshuva from Rav Nissan Alpert z"l in mesorah torah journal from the ou.
The question he was asked was it mutar to sing a tune for adon olam that finishes, off every stanza with adon olam?  The issue is that the last stanza you would say ה׳ לי ולא אירא אדון עולם which of course is terrible.
Iirc his answer was that it is fine based on that gemara Cbc qouted from sukkah.

That's less than 2 minutes of looking, and I used 1 million as the cut off

In that case, I stand corrected

You have to admit that they are hard to watch though

I don't think I have seen a weirder and more disappointing video in a while.. who puts a clip of someone throwing up in his music video???

There's a Story CD in the making that I think really deserves our anticipation: It's called The Lost Treasure and it's sort of a sequel to Abie Rotenberg's The Golden Crown. The album features the whole crew of The Golden Crown (the same guys who also made The Marvelous Middos Machine). It features songs of Abie Rotenberg, Baruch Levine, and Rabbi Shmuel Klein (Doctor Middos, who composed many Marvelous Middos Machine songs). The story was originaly written by Abie and Rabbi Klein, but was redone by Elka Gittel Schwartz (she's a great writer who writes for the Bina). The album is being produced by Shimmy Shtauber, who produced When Zeidy Was Young 3 as well as his own album, The Story Experience, which were stories of Nachman Seltzer. The album is due out by Chanuka.
