So Miami Boys Choir dropped a new accapella album, or rather, their Yavo album remastered without music. https://www.nigunmusic.com/yavo-acapella.html

I was always a big fan of their "around the campfire" album. It does have the unique Miami style (some like and some not as much), but the harmonies were great and it offered something different in the accapella world. Though I heard the sampler of this new Yavo album, I'm wondering if it will be as nice as the campfire album. Did anyone hear the whole album? Can you provide your feedback?

Is it all derived from human voices?  Yes.  Whether it's appropriate for sefira is another question.  I think he's planning to put out a video that will give some insight into how they did it.

It's not like "acapella" albums that sound just like music are a new thing.  But I'm disappointed that he went that route.

I'm not. I just wish he did a better job imitating instruments. AKA Pella and Six13 are still the gold standards, IMHO.

I 100% agree about not listening to acapella when I wouldn't listen to music. I'm just excited to have an album that isn't parodying non jewish songs... assuming he did a good job... Cant wait to listen to it in lag baomer

There are multiple layers to this. Using voices to create the instrumentals in a song vs just doing true vocals and harmonies. Fast and/or upbeat music vs slow and/or solemn music. Parodying non-Jewish songs vs recreating Jewish songs, vs original music (the category most likely to be deemed 'appropriate' for sefira/3 weeks). It may not be the most common form, but there are definitely albums with vocal/harmony singing only, no upbeat/fast stuff, and Jewish only. During the 3 weeks I always listen to Im Eshkachech (Suki and Ding). Recently I was listening to Around the Campfire from MBC. I see Kumzitz in the Rain is up to 5 albums now. And I'm sure there are plenty of other good ones.

What's worse? No music or acapella? I always have a hard time deciding and after listening to some acapella just now I feel like crying (maybe that's the intention?)

Sigh  :-\

According to all the Poiskim I saw, Once you have singing coming out of a "device" it's considered a kli shir, it dons't matter if there is is just one man singing.
The mistake people make is thinking that only musical instruments are not allowed, however (again according to the Poiskim I saw, very possible there are others who disagree) anything considered a kli shir is not permissible, and that includes device playing acappella.

I guess its safe to assume you never listen to CD's or live music for that matter.
Out of curiosity would love a list of all the Poskim.
