When to start going longer term with T-bills? My original plan was wait until I start seeing a downturn. That has now changed to wait until the fed calls for no more rate hikes. What are your thoughts?

First, what do you consider longer term?

In practice have Auction rates come in higher versus the secondary market?

Assuming rates will be trending higher over the next 12 months is it more worthwhile to stick with 3M vs 6M? Its pretty clear that one who took a 3M vs a 6M in November 2022 will be better off.

Slightly higher. Today 26 week just came in at 5.15%

-You open an IRA account at the brokerage of your choice.
-You contribute the amount you want (up to the annual cap) prior to the deadline (April 18, 2023 for tax year 2022). Once you've contributed, you're good to go as far as a tax deduction.
-At that point you have cash sitting in an IRA brokerage account that you can invest (or not) how you please (limited by what the brokerage offers).

If you do this with Fidelity, your idle cash will actually be sitting in a Money Market fund that currently probably yields around 4%. IINM that is better than most other brokers pay for idle cash.

Opened up a Fidelity account, now I gotta figure out the T-Bill business.
Is there any quick guide which help me pretend to know what I'm doing?

You want to buy in the secondary market or at auction? What length T-bills?
News & Research>Fixed Income, Bonds & CD's
will bring to the rate page.

Trying to test this out, what's the best broker?

I like Charles Schwab. Easy to navigate and has amazing customer service. Look online for a sign up bonus.

Had you opened a Charles Schwab account you could have used my step by step guide I created (page 26) ;)

No need to apologize. I’m happy you are getting a bigger bonus.

What is the best current bonus + yield if I need to park a large $ sum for the next 13 months? Best I've seen so far is a 4.75% yield from a Goldman savings account, and a $2k signup bonus for JP Morgan Private Client. I havent found one that will give me both a high yield and a decent bonus. Anyone know of anything higher?

What's the JP Morgan money market at? If that's decent together with the $2K signup maybe it's worth looking at?

ETA: see link for details - seems there's limitations to which accounts:

Eligible J.P. Morgan Wealth Management non-retirement accounts (opened in a Chase branch and serviced by a J.P. Morgan Private Client Advisor) are included but not Any J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing & Automated Investing accounts
J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Personal Advisors accounts
Any J.P. Morgan Wealth Management retirement accounts (such as Traditional and Roth IRAs, Keoghs, SEP and SIMPLE IRAs, and 401(k) plans)
