If you are planning to buy I Bonds this month I would do it today and not wait until Monday.

Does that mean you should wait until after May 1 to invest in I Bonds, which have a purchase cap of $10,000 per person per year? Absolutely not. If you buy an I Bond before May 1, you will earn an annualized 7.12% for a full six months, and then the new variable rate for the next six months. Buying before May 1 in my opinion is the way to go.

It seems you can buy another 10k this year and credit it to your account next year. For married couples you buy it as a gift for each other now. Keep it your account until 1/1/23 then transfer it to your spouse. Gifted bonds are in limbo until transferred to the gifted person. In theory you can but any amount as a gift but can only transfer 10k/yr to any gifted person.

I think I have this right but research first if you decide to do this.

@Dan  How about a post on this?
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/gifting-us-treasury-bonds-to-circumvent-10000-limit-i-bonds/amp/

I just noticed this:

Quote
Buy $10,000 for each business entity EIN you own

Which might be an interesting option, as I might be able to do that for a C Corp. that I own, without affecting my personal AGI.

unless the corp is buying with corp money, that would create a bookkeeping job?

They must have a Treasury Direct account.

Who is eligible to open a TreasuryDirect account?
Individuals and certain entities may open TreasuryDirect accounts.  In order to open a TreasuryDirect account, an individual or entity account manager must have a valid Social Security Number (SSN), be 18 years of age or over, and be legally competent. An entity must have a valid SSN or Employer Identification Number (EIN). The account owner must also have a United States address of record and have an account at a U.S. depository financial institution that will accept debits and credits using the Automated Clearing House method of payment. "U.S. person" as referred to in the online application refers to an individual or an entity eligible to open a TreasuryDirect account. See Learn more about Entity Accounts.
