Countries With Strict Rules On Bringing In Food
« on: May 31, 2015, 05:36:18 PM »
Maybe someone can add a wiki with the countries that are known to be strict about (certain) foods. I can think of:

Australia
New Zealand
Fiji
Costa Rica
Mexico
Egypt (Especially from Taba border crossing)

Australia is about 10x as strict as NZ.

It's unbelievable.

Ummm, the good old US of A can give you a hard time about food. I once was held up for an hour at customs because of some deli sandwiches the balabuste in Antwerp handed me.

Interesting, my experience was the opposite.

Nothing to do with experience...

The rules themselves in Australia are stricter than NZ, the latter allowing US meat and chicken for example, while the former does not.

You're being naive if you think you can equate a Australian customs rep to a US Airways rep.

Pediatric interventional radiologists and target cashiers are also both people.

From NY to Israel fruits & veg??

My luggage was scanned in נתבג they found a avocado,
Sir, you got a fruit in there,
"I don't remember taking a fruit if you want you can dump it"
he spent a few minutes roaming through my suitcase couldn't find it,
         יעלה לך

the next day I enjoyed every bit of it.

Australian Customs is notorious for their enforcing to the T of their rules!
E.g. Someone brought in a fruit, after it was found the person offered them to confiscate it, but no, they were insistent on fining the person heavily for signing a government document falsely.

To *rely* on getting a "nice customs agent"  is foolish.

i believe i fulfilled all written requirements. if necessary, i would have escalated the situation to a higher up to prove my case. it was moot, though, since the agent let it through regardless.

my point was only that they dont necessarily "enforce to the T their rules" since my specific agent didnt think i fulfilled the requirements "to the T" yet still let it in

but of course it would not be wise to go in relying on getting a nice agent
