No true Scotsman.

I said I think... but since you bring so much evidence to support your claim you must know what your talking about...

I sat on jury for a murder trial, but got myself kicked off once the trial started. Was interesting, and I still kick myself for not finishing the case.

During the selection process it was fun to see the excuses people came up with. I'm racist, I hate cops, I love cops, I worked for a lawyer, I don't speak English, etc.

Why did you get kicked off ?

This happened more than 4 years ago. I wrote up "the story" then  - if you have any interest, read it here.

The case was about this:
Brooklyn
A man was found stabbed to death yesterday in East New York, police said.
Officers received a call at about 1:10 a.m. and responded to Linwood Street near Ridgewood Avenue, where they discovered Carlos Santiago, 30, with a stab wound to his chest.
Santiago was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

That's not a claim about jury duty. It's a comment on your logic.

Interesting, thanks

For DDF, I should post it as "Trip Report: Jury Duty, Kings County," but then I'd get killed for the lack of pictures or talk of the courthouse food options.

I think it is against halacha to go to jury duty ... dont ask you local orthadox rabbi but a rabbi that actually knows Halacha.
I am assuming you are referencing Mishneh Halachos 4:213.
you can find it at http://www.tshuvos.com/showSefer.asp?sefer=Mishne_Halochos_4&name=%EE%F9%F0%E4%20%E4%EC%EB%E5%FA%20%E7%EC%F7%20%E3&min=1&max=250&seperator=no&numCode=213&operation=showsefer
Do not think that most poskim agree with this pesak, but interesting

If they can't prove you got it once they can't prove you got it 5 times either. That's what certified/registered mail is for.

Why do you think that certified mail is the only way to prove that it was mailed? It just needs to be "established" that it was received (NY Judiciary Law 527), for which most judges would accept an affidavit saying it was mailed to your address and that it was not returned.

Going down and telling them that I will rule according to the Talmud (which a murder is guilty) was a win win situation.

I had a rebbi that did that. The judge asked him, Do you follow US law? But he let him off.

Its an interesting concept to think that the people who decide your fate are the ones that weren't smart enough to figure a way out of jury duty! :D

Not really. A person is a "mentch" and wants to give back to society.

Or have nothing going on in their lives. It made the concept of jury of your peers seem pretty much impossible.

For this reason, I once felt compelled to not try to get out of it.

In the end I was dismissed because I could not stay on the case for 3 weeks.

Speaking of jury duty, I once heard a story (most probably not true) that there were a few chasidishe guys that came down for jury duty and they all started mumbling that they don't understand English, they were all told to sit down. After a couple of minutes there was an announcement on the loudspeaker, "The folks that do not speak English, should please take the elevator to the second floor, walk down the hallway till the end, and enter the office at the third door to the right." so they all stood up and made their way to the office, as soon as they walked in, they were told, "Since you all understood so nicely, kindly return to your seats and wait for your names to be called":D :D :D

If you have 2 addresses in different states can you go back and forth when you receive notice from either state just say you live mainly in the other?
