Visiting lakewood with camera, I was thinking more like a baseball bat. (Pun(ch) intended)

Better get us a deal somewhere else
TBH I am totally fine with a place like MR. Broadways or the like and just ordering a couple of platters of Sushi, Deli sanwiches, onion rings, knishes etc... Its more of a "get together" matzav and definitely much cheaper and we can all just split the bill.
For me its not about the food (for a nice dining experience I go out with my wife ;) ) and I think a more casual atmosphere would work better than a "fancy restaurant".

I am probably in the minority though as it seems most of you davka want a "high end" restaurant, which is also fine with me if thats what everyone else wants. Just throwing the idea out there.

that's not a bad idea I would even be open to a BBQ if we can find a cool place maybe a boat, or rooftop in the city?

In my experience those kinds of meals rarely end up being as cheap as they sound like they should.  A good steak at Le Marais with salad and a side is under $20 if someone wants that, while that kind of meal will likely end up more than that for worse food/ambiance.

But as I said, it doesn't really matter to me.

Dont forget to add tax and tip :-)
Indeed, there is a Steak, Frites, Salade for $19.75 on the menu. What cut is that?

Le Mar can sometimes get very petty about nonsense like this. Ultimately theyre not going to turn away people and Ive been there before with 10+ without any of there pre-menu options. Ive only had to deal with a set menu for a sheva bro and in those cases they do pre-make the appitizers but not the mains (they cant cook a steak before you get there. at least I hope they wouldnt). I dont know why theyre being so difficult

Im surprised no one mentioned Kasba. Great food and none of the attitude...but i guess if youre not in nyc every day you want to hit up the midtown places

I have a contact at Kasba, but I don't think it's on par with LM.

If a place has attitude, we already save on the tips.

But that's just me.

For those places that include in the bill the tip, I pay cash, and leave.

A tip has to be deserved.

While Kasba is very good, youre right - Its not on par with LM

If a place has attitude, we already save on the tips.

But that's just me.

For those places that include in the bill the tip, I pay cash, and leave.

A tip has to be deserved.

I did that once in pita hut in miami beach. A schwarma place with horrible service when we were there (we couldnt even get a water refill) they included 18% service charge on a $27 bill for my wife and I. I left $30 cash (unfortunately I didnt have $27 and just wanted to leave; even with the 18% it was $32 or so, so i didnt completely fudge on tip even though the service was non existent) and walked out. As I was walking to my car the manager came running out of the store after me. He started screaming that I am a ganov and I left  before paying the whole bill. I calmly explained that tips are for service and I received none, yet I still left a tip just not 18%. His response - "We dont pay our staff, they work off tips and you are stealing from them".  Well that obviously doesn't justify anything and I told him that tips are for service and are not included, and certainly not a whopping 18%. His response (in classic israeli style) "well tips are not for service here, they are part of the fee". I got into my car and drove off, but did not feel good about the whole episode.

I guess I'm going to make the res for 14 at Le Marais at 4:30pm.  It's cancelable until the day before in case anyone comes up with any better ideas.

Is anyone interested in going for drinks at Clubhouse Cafe right across the street beforehand?
