I know, but it seemed to me that I got involved in a conversation among Chabad guys with my M.O. sensibilities.

The Jewish neighborhoods in LA aren't as close to the scarier parts as they are in NY. That's part of the NYC charm.

Heck, if you would've told me 3 years ago I'd be living in CLE I'd have laughed at you!

But the restaurant and community scene here has changed for the better, so seems like I'm staying put.

Not at all.
But I can't really refer to how many kids in my class were frum at the end of school vs at the beginning having gone to Modern Orthodox day school and high school and then a secular college. I found that more kids found religion in day school and high school (or just after) than lost it.
College is a different story. The frummest kids left to go to YU so we "lost" more frum kids due to that than to the kids losing frumness (yes, I just made up a word).

Funny thing is a shadchan from NYC told my mother that you can't ask a girl beforehand if she would be willing to leave her hometown.  After all she claimed, if the girl falls in love she'll follow the guy anywhere.  She had to bite my tongue to not ask why she still lived in brooklyn while her husband who lost his NYC job and moved to CLE only got to see her on yomim tovim because CLE was too small town for her to handle...

But I suppose only getting egged after being in yeshiva for a year in CH isn't too bad.  Worse things have happened to others there.

And we were having a good night too, just came back from watching C.C. Sabathia and the Indians beat up on the Mets 9-1 in Shea Stadium.
