Neighbor phone call spamming

I still dont get what the spammers get out of this...

I periodically get calls from aisian phone numbers.  They generally only ring twice. If I pickup and say hello, a woman says "Hi, how are you" in a chirpy American accent and then the line cuts out.  What are they trying to do?

They test numbers to see if its real and then they sell that info to other scammers prob for like $.10 a piece.

I saw that, but that's the whole point of IP spoofing....
