The fact of having a right to something.
Calling someone a jerk for not wanting to change seats sure sounds like self entitlement.

Nope, I'm with illherman here. If someone does something illogical and actually contrary to logic I call them a jerk when it is the detriment of another.

So you tell me this person is an air marshal and can't change seats but you still call him a jerk. There is someone being illogical and actually contrary to logic but it is not this person you are calling a jerk. What was the reason you gave this so called jerk for wanting him to give up his assigned seat?

In TLV they have undercover security walking around like flyers.
This one guy had a beat up pink! carry on with him and was just walking around back and forth aimlessly for about an hour.
It was also obvious that the carry on was empty.

i once flew business on elal on the 747 and sat upstairs. since the entrance to the cockpit was located there i knew the marshal had to be sitting among us. however there werent too many of us up there, and no one fit the bill. one guy was sitting in a window seat, another was sleeping the whole flight etc. i finally asked the beefy male steward, excuse me, but i have to ask, who is the marshal and proceeded to explain to him why it couldnt possibly be anyone sitting in the cabin. he cracked a smile and pointed to himself...

on rj its very simple to figure it out. especially when im first to board and theres already a very arabic looking gentleman sitting in business...

i was actually apprehended by one of them, but i think i wrote about it on one of my tr's

Not air marshes, but outside the terminal in TLV airport you can spot these hidden agents walking around with backpacks like tourists.
or as the janitors in the terminal

He's not a jerk once I knew he's an air marshal. Maybe that's where we go off?

I told him I wanted to sit next to my wife.

From Merriam Webster:
Jerk: a stupid person or a person who is not well-liked or who treats other people badly.
So JJ may be right if he considers him stupid (though it's true that in the way it's commonly used I think it sounds like a bit of entitlement).

But CM is right if a jerk is defined in the other way on Merriam Webster:
Jerk: a quick pull or twist or a sudden sharp movement.
I think we all agree not giving up your seat doesn't classify you as a "sharp movement".

Not air marshes, but outside the terminal in TLV airport you can spot these hidden agents walking around with backpacks like tourists.
You can tell when once in a while they'll take a flashlight and look into the garbage cans.

was there once by a chafetz chashud and the janitors pulled out guns and went running
Seen that as well.

I guess we look at it differently. The way I see it he would be doing me a favor by changing seats. If he declines for whatever reason that does not make him a jerk.

I'm with jj on this.
If he has a good reason that's ok, but if his reason is just that "I booked it first" that qualifies him as a jerk in my book.

Why does he need a reason? It is his assigned seat. Why does anyone feel they have a right to his seat.

On both of my recent flights I was not able to sit next to my wife. I would not even think of asking someone to change seats for something so trivial.

Okay, this is something that only a Yid will understand  ;) ;D Seriously.

A Yid will always turn over the plane until he sits next to his Rebetzin. Unlike you.

I fully understand this. This is something a Yid will not understand. The one that does not want to change seats is not the one acting like a "jerk".  ;)
