+1 on crashplan.  i've been using them for a few years - many clients are running it as well.  I have 2.5TB or so backed up and regularly pull files back down and it's been great.  well worth the $$$ for the cloud-based service.

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I need some good advice.
I have had enough of WD dumbware, as every successive version gets dumber and dumber.

I would like to hear your opinions for a free or inexpensive alternate instead.
I am looking for software that supports both automatic and manual backup.
Software should basically be able to copy everything from my computer's internal (secondary) hard drive to portable external hard drive.
[For Windows 8.]

why not consider an online backup solution? https://www.crashplan.com/carboniteswitcher/

Why not consider a cloud backup. If you don't need more than 5GB, Icloud for Windows is free and works great. I actually pay for it (half price for schools) and I've already used it to recover files.

I already have online backup.
But I like having my own physical backup as well, for a number of reasons.

My computer wouldn't start. Formatted my hard drive and it still wouldn't. (lenovo one key recovery would freeze too)
Sent it back to lenovo.
They sent it back to be saying they don't see an issue and they WERE able to reinstall windows.  I did a Mozy restore, did a full system Norton 360 scan and it was fine for a month.
Recently couldn't start up again. It would take me to system restore and then freeze. So Lenovo came and replaced my Hard Drive.
Question:
Is it possible there is some sort of Virus in my backup file?
Should I NOT do a Mozy restore?

I would assume the hard drive was bad. Replacing the hard drive probably fixed that issue.

i use http://www.zoolz.com/- Free 100GB- but it takes some time to get the free account (week or so). Most annoying thing is uploads on the free account are limited to 1mbps- but it dont really care how long it takes.

New hard drive installed. Did mozy restore and now I'm having the same problem booting up. It Goes straight to disk recover which fails and shuts down.

Weird.  Registry may be corrupt.  What's the details of the error you get with the failure of Startup Recovery?
Why don't you just to a fresh install of Windows..

I did a fresh install. Lenovo came down with a new hard drive reinstalled windows and did a restore.  Can i NOW assume I just have a corrupt file in by back up? They want me to send it to the depot for repair. Even though I already did that 2 my months ago with the same problem and they got it to start up.

When I start up it takes me to the start up repair screen and then shows me the screen shot attached.
