Why is it that in order to power a device in the US it would need 110v And in the EU 220v?

Think of a shower:
there are 2  ways how to take a good shower, enough water
  • Increasing the water flow, more water the better
  • Increasing the water pressure, more pressure the better

same here
  • Amps = measure of current (think amount of water)
  • volts = Size of energy per current (think pressure)

Therefor
volts * amps = watts  [Power is equal to voltage times current]

And
Volts = Watts divided by Amps

Money wise
your electric bill is determined by KWh (kilowatts[1000 watts] per hour) it wouldn't make a difference  if you use 120v ot 240v

240v is technically more efficient

240v is technically more efficient
And more dangerous

Seems like 120 should be more efficient since it creates the same result with less volts (or as you put it pressure)

I don''t perfectly understand it but it's something like,
110v uses more current (water), needs thicker wires (pipes), loses less current (water) while passing the wire (pipe)
i.e., with extension wire could drop from 120 to 110 when it reaches the device.

(If someone understands it better please explain)
