It sounds like a pretty ridiculous empty threat. How could they charge you for a flight after you booked with miles if you didnt go against any t&cs. Its not against the t&cs to downgrade within 30 days to get yhe af refunded.
And even if it was its hard to believe they can charge you for something you never agreed yo pay for

T&C's state they can charge you full price for certain violations. It is not an empty threat. Delta and Citi have closed accounts or clawed back miles for what they call violations of the T&C's. Wake up and smell the coffee. Just because you have not heard the horror stories of what these FI can do doesn't mean it is not happening. Things are changing by the minute. Don't be bragging about doing Xbm unless you want to be the next Chiu brothers.

Why can't they? It is an unpaid debt. I am pretty sure a CA can get your SS# without BOA helps.

If AS goes this route it would be very smart and tricky on their part. Hitting someone's CR would get their attention.

The question is, if by not paying the AF do they have a right (via their T&C)  to charge for the full fare of the flight.

For selling, brokering etc.. It's says palmetto clearly. But nothing about not paying annual fees.

I would say no but it doesn't matter what we say. All I am saying is don't take it as an empty threat. The CA angle on their part is very smart.

Last time I checked there's a small difference between closing down a FFN and charging the customer the FULL amount of the ticket/Just because you have not heard the horror stories of what these FI can do doesn't mean it is not happening. Until it is challenged and fails, yes. Remember not to long ago every points/miles guru stated they can't claw back miles. We now know that to be wrong. I said this a hundred times and will say it again. Just because something worked yesterday does not mean it will work today.

So if I technically use my miles today on Emirates F and then in 11 months cancel my card, they can bill me for my flight?
Doesn't seem to make sense that because I signed up for a credit card with a bank, that I'm tied down to staying with them.

they only said if you don't pay the annual fee even once not that you have to keep it open forever

They are not going after someone who has one card and is cancelling after 11 months. AFAIK it is those who did xBM with no intention of paying the AF.

My account wasn't just 1 card and I didn't have intentions of paying the AF either...
But those plans are quickly changing!

@chaimmoskowitz I do think its an empty threat. I dont see how they can prove in a court of law that someone sold AS miles. Unless both the seller & buyer bank with BOFA & there is a check involved or some time of quickpay program if BOFA has one. Just my 2 cents.
