Friday flight
« on: June 18, 2015, 07:33:05 PM »
I would like to book a flight to Cleveland next Friday but I need to work so I'm thinking about booking the 3:40 PM from EWR that arrives in CLE at 5:18 PM .
Shkiah that shabbos is at 9:04
Is this cutting it too close? Would you do it?

I would do it. El al has flights to Isreal that arrives 2 hours before Shabbat and it's packed with frum jews.

4 hours is safe enough imo

El Al is very good about making sure you arrive on time for Shabbos and even has special clearance at some airports for their Fri flights

You asked for opinions, I fly alot for personal & business. Most of the time you will be ok. Things happen. If you dont have a choice is one thing... If you have a choice to fly earlier.. Dunno. I wouldnt do it

I think it's OK.  If it wasn't NYC it would for sure be fine, NYC just increased the odds of delay.

At 540 you can start demanding to go back to the gate and get back home before shabbos.

If it has wheels up even at 615, you'll land at 720 and still have plenty of time to make it anywhere in CLE by 8.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Halacha May be an issue, you gotta leave at least double the travel time from place A to B. I was told that is after taking standard issues like delays and traffic into consideration. Meaning the flight plus time from airport to home plus standard delays x2. Ask your LOR.

Look at the delay history for that flight ✈.  Add an hour, you should be fine. Worse case you have plenty of time to turn around and stay in NY

What's a standard delay?

I think you look at the worst case scenario and work from there.  I don't think you need to factor for a diversion unless there's extreme weather.  I've been on thousands of flights and have yet to be diverted.
