It stems from people not caring about anything on a deeper level than pushing their beliefs/politics/agenda/all of the above. If you don't care about the life lost in either case, or the people hurt, then it lines up beautifully.
Well said. Similarly, when people discuss a presidents health checkups, some people dream that it will end up in bad results, or hope some ailment is worse than stated. But unless it impacts their job capabilities, I don't even wanna know about it.
