Rashi: One Must Buy Food From His Hosts
« on: June 24, 2015, 05:15:18 PM »
In this week's parsha, the Israelites attempt to head into the land of Israel by way of the land of Edom. They ask permission from Edom by saying that they will buy their food from the people of Edom, to support them (as a favor for allowing them to pass through). On this story, Rashi comments:

So, when traveling, should you have to buy food from your hotel? Or if it's not practical because their food is not kosher, should you have to be willing to at least pay their fees for warming up your food instead of bringing a toaster oven with you?

Obviously, I don't think this is really a *have to* situation, but I'm curious to how Rashi would apply his thoughts if he was around today. What do you think?

You're paying the hotel already.
